Will maybe adopt fvwm as my window manager. Love twm, but it's getting harder and harder to use with newer firefox versions

@getimiskon

I might try it out actually, fed up with Firefox crap and crappy UI and needing to jump through hoops to make it look ok and functional

It you like stacking wm's and TWM, then it's pretty cool.

- Ridiculously customisable
- v desktops
- ICCM-compliant out of the box
- TWM style icon manager/iconifying windows

@segnwrisastoika to be honest, the developers are trying their best to make it work as well as possible with modern websites, although prepare yourself for quite a bit of disappointment with a bunch of websites. Specifically Discourse-based forums are a pet peeve of mine.

@segnwrisastoika I didn't know you're actually using twm (I thought nobody really used it).

Fucking hate Discourse.

Yeah, but the constant UI changes for no reason, just to make it more chrome/edge-like in the hopes to appeal to some new users.. Every fucking update needing to redo the userchrome just to bring back the tabs where you want them, etc, it's just change for the sake of change

My go-to wm for the last decade. I alternate a bit with cwm, dwm and blackbox, but always, ALWAYS come back to twm

@segnwrisastoika there's a nice greek forum about Linux which I have been posting for a while, and the reason I stopped using it was that for some dumb reason it displays everything in a read-only state, like it doesn't detect JavaScript support, even though it's enabled.

To make things even worse, you can't even scroll properly on PM, you have to use the arrow keys. And the funny thing is that the forums that use older versions of Discourse work without any issues. Even GitHub works normally and those fucking [redacted] don't get their shit to work. Fucking wankers.

Also, I have noticed that some "DDoS protection" bullshit block PM, again, for no actual reason. For example, a well known local anarchist website doesn't work with PM. I guess I could try changing the user agent, but I haven't bothered to try it.

The web in general sucks ass. Every fucking website with the stupid hero header or whatever the hell is called, javascript for every single thing, nobody gives a shit about usability.

@segnwrisastoika Now we're fucking talking! I have been designing my goddamn website to work on every fucking browser and I have never got hired to a job to make web a bit better, while shitdevs get paid to destroy the web in every way imaginable.

@getimiskon

Yup. And it's usually the client's fault or teh "seo specialists" fault that they want the latest and bestest shit out there, 80MB of ads, every fucking jquery library in existence, etc.

If it doesn't show correctly and if you can't navigate easily on a text-based browser, your website is crap, period

@segnwrisastoika the default FE on Akkoma uses JS and it works just fine (with the exception of reactions, it's somewhat broken for some reason). Also Mastodon worked on Kafeneio before 4.2.0 just fine.
