Because of multiple spamming incidents from mastodon.social and its poor moderation, as well as the acceptance of federating with Meta's Threads, I'm in the unfortunate position to block that instance, permanently this time. We're sorry for the inconvenience.

---

@getimiskon I get the spamming part, but why defederate from instances because they choose to federate with threads?

@graphite it wasn't the main reason that I blocked them. It wouldn't even be a reason for blocking them by itself.

@getimiskon that makes sense

@graphite actually it's the second time I blocked mastosoc, as I blocked them temporarily once. They should fix their moderation and disable registrations (when needed).

By the way, I forgot about the threads thing, I generally block "corporate owned" instances from my instance. There are already a bunch removed and mastosoc tends to act like one, despite not being one.

@getimiskon I feel like disabling registrations would really discourage a lot of new user, especially because the official mastodon app really encourages you to use mastosoc.

@graphite I'll be honest, the reason I have my instance's registrations closed is to make moderation much easier. I can pick who can join and who can't.

Also I never got the point of having an "official app". You can have any client compatible with masto API working with any compatible instances. I have tried that app with my instance, that works with Akkoma. Haven't noticed any issues.

To me, it's just Gargron's bullshit to attract former twitter users who don't know better, "capitalizing" on their ignorance.

@getimiskon Idk, that “bullshit” brought s lot of users to the fediverse

@graphite while it brought a lot of users on fedi, the approach is totally wrong for this kind of platform. I remember lots of people I talk to daily came during the first waves of migrations, where none of that stuff existed. Yet, a strong community was formed over time.

@getimiskon @graphite The Fediverse will not replace Twitter. Lets recognize that and keep it small and comfy
