i was just about to say that somehow the performance is similar to Linux, but I guess I jinxed it by thinking about it. Wow, is this slow! How can anyone still use this?!?

@graphite@shonk.phite.ro some touchpads need special drivers on windows to work properly

And I also had to manually delete the Linux partitions... While something like Mint's installer would just ask "hey, do you wanna replace Windoes ur dual-boot?"... So, ironically, Windows would be harder for a newbie to install than Linux...

@meow what touchpads? I'm curious. I think the Synaptics ones work alright out-of-the-box.

Oh yeah, did I mention that the ISO would not be detected and I had to use Ventoy to get it to be recognised amd boot?

And now I have to deal with the shitshow that's Windows Update. Great.

All of this to run some weird Russian "IDE" ironically called "Clever", to code in motherfucking ev3basic, because in the WRO team I'm in:

* one kid only has a macbook
* another kid only has Linux laptops
* I also only had Linux laptops until now, but I'm putting AtlasOS on this old one that I don't have any other use for (bye bye bluefin, you were nice while you lasted)

@graphite@shonk.phite.ro yeah a lot of older ones require specific, hard to find drivers on widnows, but work ootb on linux

@graphite@shonk.phite.ro be careful with atlas, it disables some security stuff iirc

@meow@floofy.city oh..

this is why i asked if it was good

oh well, it's not like I'll have anything personal or important on here

...aaand it's not even updating yet. It's "pRePaRiNg To CoNfIgUrE wInDoWs".

Hey Microsoft, you're a multi-fucking-billion-dollar company, so how does your PAID OS not have something as basic as background updates, which basically every Linux distro has had ever since they were a thing?!?

@graphite@shonk.phite.ro if windows 10 isn't a requirement, i'd suggest windows 8.1. it's way more optimized for shitty hardware than 10

@graphite@shonk.phite.ro or windows 8, but the ui is a bit more scuffed

@admin it’s not that shitty, it’s an i5-7200something. And I think “clever” needs w10. But thanks for the suggestion anyways!

@graphite @meow nope. It used to disable UAC by default along with the spectre & meltdown patches. It's also marketed towards GAMERS™ which is always ideal; if you're looking for performance try LTSC

@graphite@shonk.phite.ro oh alr, my b lol, and np

@graphite @meow unfortunately not, no - it's a completely separate version that probably removes more than it installs

still preparing to configure it... should i shut it down?

@graphite@shonk.phite.ro I feel like this is a stupid suggestion and you already considered it but

Could it run under Wine?

@witix nope. a friend tried it, it can’t connect to the ev3.

it’s not like it can reliably on windows either

@graphite@shonk.phite.ro right???

I got a new laptop a few months ago and used Windows for a few months. It felt okay, professional, whatever. Then I got to Linux again and used Windows again earlier today and all I could think of was that aside from hardware and software support Linux is just soo superior. In every possible way.
