@marcy@floofy.city i don't have a lot of experience with them yet. but so far they've been good for me, a lot better than godaddy at least imo

@marcy @getimiskon some dont let you transfer your domains, some upcharge you on renewal, some dont even let you change your nameservers etc. (i think namecheap does all 3)

@marcy yeah, using mainly them for the last 15 years probably, haven't had any issues or even "magically taken" names. The UI is a bit of a mess but so is everyone's.

@marcy it's fine. not sure if i'd call it good but it's not really that bad since i started with it. namecheap is a decent enough starting point.

tried it for half a year before switching, prices are ok if you aren't going to renew since that's sometimes a bit more expensive than other registrars, tld collection is better but you won't really care that much unless you want some newer ones.

also this point is a bit subjective but i don't like namecheap's interface on mobile, very specific use case but i did have to suffer a bit when there was an urgent thing i had to do and i didn't have a computer around.

switched to porkbun and it's better in some ways. dns records update pretty quickly, prices are more balanced, not cheaper in the short-term but it's better for me (depends on the tld of course), the interface isn't as pretty but it's intuitive and it performs well. the tld collection is more limited but for 90% of use cases that's fine

if you care about pricing that much, it may help to check what tld you want and find registrars that offer it: https://tld-list.com/tlds-from-a-z

@marcy@floofy.city no :( there's lots of paywalls for random things you don't need, and it is very confusing if you just want to register a domain name and set the dns records

personyally i use prokbun and it's great, there's also glauca.digital which is a bit more expensive but it is run by the trans adgenda antifa if you want to support that
