Look, I do like Linux a lot, I just think it's weird that changing the password and hostname are easy af and then there's the torture involved in changing the username neocat_googly_shocked

@witix yeah, it's a thing on most Unix-based systems. I tried to change my username on macOS some time ago, and it was kind of annoying.

@getimiskon apparently you have to create another user (or get to root shell somehow), issue an usermod -l command, and then there’s the shenanigans with the homedir

meanwhile password is just issuing sudo passwd [username] and then following the instructions and the hostname is changed by just editing /etc/hostname neocat_googly_shocked

@witix i never bothered to change my username on my linux system. I only changed my shell prompt to reflect that a bit, which is easy enough.

@getimiskon@fedi.getimiskon.xyz I had to change it recently when I was doing an install for someone else but then after setting everything up I realized I made the username 'witix' reflexively
