@snacks @lucy @meso wouldn’t that just be a gradual endurance thing over time though?

@arcana @meso @snacks successfully putting together some pieces. basically had a blockage so despite setting everything else right, i couldn't vocalize for long and it took massive effort. not anymore! now my biggest issue is courage and practice. which i think gets better if i don't zone out while speaking.

@arcana @meso @snacks basically, relaxing some muscles i involuntarily activated. no amount of books or tutorials can teach you that it seems it's trial and error and a lot of, what's the opposite if dissociation? basically gaining awareness of your anatomy and how voice works.

@lucy @meso @snacks That sounds incredibly complicated. Are you hyper conscious of how you talk now, manually controlling the muscles?

@arcana @lucy @meso @snacks the challenge with this is that you need to gain conscious control over some muscle groups you usually never even think about, then use that to retrain muscle memory while gradually letting go of control again (because you will constantly overcorrect and it’s hard/painful to keep that up for long)

@mia @snacks @lucy @meso kinda crazy how this is way more complicated than becoming a trained singer

@arcana @snacks @lucy @meso i think it’s mostly a psychological challenge. overcoming internalized shame and stuff was the hardest part by far for me at least

@mia @snacks @lucy @meso Hmm yeah, that makes sense. One of those things were the process feels awful.

@arcana @snacks @lucy @meso dysphoria was a strong driving factor for me though. i hated my voice so much i’d rather embarrass myself by sounding a bit weird

@mia @snacks @arcana @meso i just decided to speak less. i actually pretended to be mute to strangers a few times. but then i live in a less friendly area than you, if i sound "gay" i risk getting beat up

@lucy @mia @meso @snacks @eemmaa tbf I never thought you sounded like a man which I guess is part of why I’m unsure how you determine when it’s ready

@eemmaa @lucy @arcana@fedi.layer02.net @meso @snacks difference between my masculine and feminine voice

of course median frequency alone doesn’t tell you much but i don’t think it’s possible to have brainworms so strong they’d perceive it as sounding like a man, or a man trying to sound like a woman

i’m also confident lucy can achieve similar results

@mia@movsw.0x0.st @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @arcana@fedi.layer02.net @meso@netzsphaere.xyz @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz oh ya I mean I don’t doubt it. I trained seriously on this some years ago, whole control throat muscles, move “Adam’s apple” up until it sits near jaw, speak from mouth etc etc, now I speak in natural male range out of spite
