@m0xee@social.librem.one iska's laziness strikes again, I really wanted to do it under 7. Actual gentoo install was surprisingly smooth

Now how do make sound work on here?
catlookinside it's okay for the server, but I'm going to install this to desktop and thinkpad...

If I were you, I won't be putting that… thing on a server. Or anywhere. Ever 😆
But this is your hardware.
I've never had any issues with sound — just make sure the module for your hardware gets built with the kernel 🤷
But was using it long before PulseAudio and friends became a thing. In fact, ALSA was still something relatively new at the time 👴

@m0xee@social.librem.one @iska@catposter.club

I won't be putting that thing anywhere
then what else geblobcatshrug
Debian sid is holding my system hostage, arch always breaks.. I just knew compilation time isn't a problem with my hardware.
My thinkpad also needs a "free" distro, limiting my choice there to guix, gentoo or reinstalling trisquel...
just use plain ALSA and apulse for Firefox if you want microphone input.
We're not in 2004
I noticed that alsa does actually work. And then noticed, for 3 years I couldn't figure out gentoo pipewire because I didn't set XDG_RUNTIME_DIR....

@iska
With pipewire it might be more complex, but I don't see why you should use it at all when you can build all your software without it — just use plain ALSA and apulse for Firefox if you want microphone input.
