chat, im currently doing some rough calculations for my fedi hosting idea, and im arriving at some rough pricing
for mastodon, it'd be 8$/month for a "decent performance" single-user / small-sized (~10) instance
for akkoma, it would be 6$/month for a single-user instance, all the way to something like a 100-user instance
for iceshrimp.net, based on the data i have atm, it could be even as low as 3$/month for a single-user/small instance
(this is based on the raw usage (and its costs) of the underlying software)
Does this pricing seem reasonable to y'all? (boost for reach pls )
Edit: Numbers will be a bit lower than what i expect; i forgot database GB usage costs, and and also some extra services for some of these, so add 30% to the numbers
Actually, I should have clarified from the above post;
Would you, for this price, want to rent a fedi server at a hosting company?
Mastodon: 8$/month
Akkoma: 6$/month
Iceshrimp.net: 3$/month
@ShadowJonathan I prefer selfhosting and dealing with the consequences , but in general that pricing sounds very reasonable :3 (imo you can set the prices a bit higher to accomodate your labour)
@getimiskon @ShadowJonathan I did not say that this should be done for everyone, I don't even really "selfhost", I use a VPS...
