@dushman@hollow.raccoon.quest @condret@fedi.absturztau.be that thumbnail is clickbait lmao, he's not switching apparently (he should just buy into HEDT, he's got enough money)

@dushman What's wrong with it? I've been using it (+hyprland) for dayjob and it's ok, but idk maybe there is something wrong with it? I don't have much desktop distro experience. What is better?

A lot. The devs are extremely incompetent and their update policy is asinine just makes it less stable than arch. Also they accidentally caused a ddos on the AUR not once but twice. Another incident was when they fucked up their SSL certs and told people to just rewind their system clocks lmao. If you want Arch on ez mode then use EndeavourOS, it's much better. That or just setup Arch using archinstall, it's ez. Memejaro holding back packages just makes it so when shit breaks it takes ages for it to get fixed.

@dushman@hollow.raccoon.quest @kr4ft3r@mastodon.gamedev.place thinking about it now it's probably a better idea to use Wubuntu than Manjaro lol

Yeah it's pretty good compared to memejaro for sure. Personally I use Alpine on most of my machines, I love openrc and busybox. Systemd is bloat. Also OpenBSD on my thinkpad that has coreboot flashed.

@kr4ft3r @dushman Basically, if manjaro hasn't managed to fuck itself during routine update, it's fine.
But someday it will do that.

@dushman do you think using Artix is a good alternative to Arch/EndeavourOS? I'm thinking of switching distro in the future because of the lack of some packages i want to use, and i guess they would probably be available there. Also i don't know if i'll keep using runit or i'll switch to a different init system.

I use Alpine on a lot of machines, it uses openrc, busybox and musl. The holy trinity. musl is much better than gnu libc, faster binaries, more secure less clusterfucked. That huge recent ssh vuln didn't even affect machines using musl cuz it has measures to prevent race conditions that cause shit like that.

@dushman @kr4ft3r I have never managed to brick arch.
But I have also never used arch with a DE.
I have never managed to brick artix so I'm still running it.

Same. I knew how to fix things quickly if something broke.

@dushman @kr4ft3r It's just never had anything significant break to begin with.
I don't think I've even had problems with openssl on it. Or at least not ones that affected ssh.

Yeah the stereotype of Arch being unstable is just a result of noobs fucking up their install unwittingly. If you manage it well then it just werks. (for desktop usage do not use it for a server lol)

@dushman oh, really? i didn't know about it. To be honest, i never tried musl on my system, although i could reinstall Void with the musl libraries instead. Other than Alpine, i don't know any other good alternatives tbh. Any ideas?

@dushman @kr4ft3r There's a stereotype of arch being unstable?
Oh I guess there's that gag about pacman fucking up xorg conf.
>do not use it for a server lol
Skill issue, this instance runs on arch, along with all my other shit.

To each their own lol. I run Alpine on our server, systemd is bloat. It’s super light, fast and stable. openrc, musl and busybox are the holy trinity. kagura_this

@dushman @kr4ft3r I need more computers so I can try other things for servers. I have an openbsd box that I don't use right now, because the next thing I want to put up is jitsi and it seems like it'd be annoying to put it up on a box other than the one that I have xmpp already on.
