@fristi @puniko In 1996, yes. Keyboards had dedicated I/O and were more or less standard, but software that supported mice had to do their own mouse drivers and get you to configure them, or the mouse needed a TSR. Mice that were anything besides "two buttons and a roller plugged into the serial port or PS/2 port" usually required extra stuff even after mice were kind of standard. Grab a really old DOS game, you'll have to use the keyboard to navigate through the mouse configuration. Even after Windows 3.1, you sometimes needed special stuff for the mice because Microsoft would intentionally break other companies' mice.
