guitarist bell curve meme where the middle is saying “using a capo is cheating” while the top and bottom both say “sometimes you need a capo to play a song”

@Ollie it's a tool, sometimes you may need it. Saying that a tool that helps you with something is cheating doesn't make sense.

@getimiskon once you get really advanced and start playing open notes while fretting things at the 8-12th frets you need a capo to play those pieces at different keys.

I’ve heard some people who know very little about guitar call it cheating cause all they think about is someone who uses a capo to prevent having to make barre chords like F major or something (and even then it’s not cheating lmao).

@Ollie i'll be honest, i'm not that good at playing the guitar (i tried to learn it a long time ago, but never really got it), although i understand the reason why people could use it. It kind of reminds me the transpose function on keyboards, synths etc.

@getimiskon yeah, that’s mostly what a capo is used for

Although I’ve seen some mad scientists just capo half the neck at one spot while the rest of it is open (or have another capo further down).

@getimiskon except some guitar pieces are absolutely impossible to transpose without a capo, unlike a keyboard where if you know how to play the key you can play any piece in that key (afaik).

With guitar many songs can be freely transposed without a capo you just have to be good with barre chords.
