@ezio one of the reasons I hate using firefox is that I use tree style tabs and that works like shit on Firefox. But Pale Moon, which uses the old XUL addons, makes tree style tabs work flawlessly.

@RisenValkyrie it's not that bad. Although I can't get how to auto-hide it, like I do on PM.

@getimiskon @ezio ah i don’t know how you could do that, maybe with userChrome? Firefox’s interface is just HTML+CSS now so you can just style any part of it

(try opening chrome://browser/content/browser.xhtml)

@RisenValkyrie and that's a reason why Firefox is a garbage fire. You have to manually edit shit that was easy to change with XUL. For example, on Pale Moon's version of Tree Style Tabs, you can clearly see an auto hide option on the menu. While on modern Firefox, fuck you!

@getimiskon @ezio and XUL Firefox was a dumpster fire in terms of performance and security. can’t have it all

i much prefer Firefox Quantum, WebExtensions and styling the interface with CSS over XUL Firefox. the like two extensions that don’t work i can part with

@RisenValkyrie if you want security, consider the following: disable the execution of code. Like JavaScript.

@getimiskon @RisenValkyrie @ezio afaik the security issues with xul were related to add-ons themselves, not code executed by web pages
reason being that add-ons just ran in the browser UI context and now they run in their own dedicated contexts with the new API
this really isn't a problem if you actually trust your add-ons

@RisenValkyrie Half of the internet is dogshit. Also I'm enjoying shitposting on fedi without the need for JavaScript.

@getimiskon @ezio “everything i don’t like is shit, so i never have to take it into consideration, therefore your argument is invalid”

@novenary well, considering that XUL isn't used that much anymore and there aren't many plugins on PM's add-ons repository, I guess it's much easier to trust them than back when Firefox used those.

@RisenValkyrie "Yes, everything I don't like is shit.", said the fox that can't reach the grapes it wanted.

@getimiskon @RisenValkyrie @ezio it would also be much easier to trust a curated repository as opposed to some site that allows users to upload anything that passes basic automated checks akko_shrug
