it sure as hell ain't a disease. more like a superpower. there are so many things i can do or see that i can't even try to explain them to neurotypicals
@graphite i would rather cure my other mental conditions
@graphite@shonk.phite.ro i hate well-meaning people that start talking about that eugenisist shit
and there's another advantage... cool people like allies and other people on the spectrum get closer to me, and ableists get turned away pretty quickly!
@graphite i mean, i wouldnt mind a magic pill to get rid of the overstimulation and the meltdowns tbh
- posted by otter@graphite the rest can be neat ig tho
- posted by otter@graphite Last time someone said there is a cure for autism he was talking about LOBOTOMY
@graphite@shonk.phite.ro tbh, I think of it neither as a disease or an advantage - it's just being different!
We all have our little quirks, world would be boring without them
@graphite@shonk.phite.ro autism is NOT a superpower
or a disease
it's a disability
and some things aren't all bad
but "autism is a superpower" isnt something you want to say
@Maven@woem.men but it depends. i know it's not the same for everyone..
@graphite@shonk.phite.ro Just, please don't say that
Autism is a spectrum, and you can't just say that autism is a superpower because that addresses the entire spectrum. Some parts of it can be, but I would say those are blursed at best from my experience.
(idk how to respond more than that without trauma dumping, please just don't say this)
@getimiskon@fedi.getimiskon.xyz @graphite@shonk.phite.ro In that case I'd totally tell you that there's a cure for autism
@graphite@shonk.phite.ro the last time somebody said that, it was Hugh Fudenberg
