Hmmm
Now I'm just a linux kiddie and no hardware expert
BUT
I don't think it's a good sign when a hard drive sounds like someone is using a chainsaw

@witix yeah... try doing a simple SMART test on that disk if you can, and make sure you already have backups of your most important files there

@getimiskon@fedi.getimiskon.xyz I don't think this laptop is new enough to have SMART, that thing came with Windows XP on it and was previously used as a hallway tv display server when I installed Debian with i3 on it ​neocat_woozy

@witix it probably is available, and most disk utility programs have an option for doing SMART tests. Also it will be useful to see if there's a problem on a disk.
