low key kinda am glad I don't main nixos, it sounds like a pain dealing with things made for "traditional" distros breaking in odd ways over there

@mikoto I think the point of NixOS isn't using it as main on your system, but to deploy a single setup on multiple machines.

@getimiskon I mean there's not really a point to all of that if you aren't using it in your daily workflow

I do get the appeal of trying something odd and new, I was like that at one point

Nowadays I just settle with something that works well enough, even if it's boring.

@mikoto every day I get closer to wondering why I'd use any distro other than endeavouros or popos as a daily driver

@mikoto actually glad it's falling apart because nixos users will open the most convoluted issues and call you an asshole when you don't want to bother fixing something you cant even test

@mikoto Honestly, same

(I say this despite using an immutable OS)

@SimplyTadpole I don't have issues with immutable distros, just that nixos does strange things like not using the fhs and that breaks stuff.

I think something like Fedora's Atomic stuff (Silverblue, Kinoite, etc.) is a better implementation of an immutable OS concept

@mikoto I still want to try new and exciting things but I also want everything else not directly related to it to not get in my way, generally blobcatpeekaboo

So in practice that means for stuff like OS and desktop environment I'll settle with something boring and sufficiently unchanging, *because my interests are elsewhere*

@rini eh, I think there's still quite a bit of people using it

In either case, I don't blame you for feeling that way.

@mikoto I get what you mean.

I'm using Kinoite myself and I'm honestly glad that it's mostly quite simple to understand if you're not a Linux power user (which I definitely am not lol)

When I was first getting into Linux I wanted to try the latest and nicest stuff and experiment with interesting combinations, but I found that it just stressed me out... now I just use the "set it and forget it" type of stuff blob_grinning_sweat
