Something I really like about Forgejo is how seriously they are taking software freedom.
- They use Forgejo itself as their git forge, not GitHub
- No reliance or linking to proprietary corporate services such as Patreon, Twitter, Facebook etc. They use Mastodon and Liberapay.
- No Dockerhub, their OCI images are on Codeberg.
- No Discord! (really hate how many FOSS projects use it)
- Their documentation does not recommend proprietary developer tools such as VSCode or Sublime Text.
- They recently switched to a copyleft license
Very refreshing, considering how many other popular git forges are either proprietary or "open-core"

ma’am, your “son” is on fedi with a trans background profile image, meows at entities in public replies, and walks past pet stores with intrusive thoughts
chat, im currently doing some rough calculations for my fedi hosting idea, and im arriving at some rough pricing
for mastodon, it'd be 8$/month for a "decent performance" single-user / small-sized (~10) instance
for akkoma, it would be 6$/month for a single-user instance, all the way to something like a 100-user instance
for iceshrimp.net, based on the data i have atm, it could be even as low as 3$/month for a single-user/small instance
(this is based on the raw usage (and its costs) of the underlying software)
Does this pricing seem reasonable to y'all? (boost for reach pls )
Edit: Numbers will be a bit lower than what i expect; i forgot database GB usage costs, and and also some extra services for some of these, so add 30% to the numbers
