Every OS is about something. That is, the way it's designed is such that a particular model of use is less at odds with the system than others.
For the old Macs, the model was mouse-based GUI interaction. Windows went in a similar vein, but expressed a bit less fluently. RISC OS really pushed that angle.
For Unix, the model is all about one thing: text. Everything you deal with is meant to be a text file of some type. Configuration? Text file. Data? Text file. Graphics? Yep, text file. You're given text-centric tools to edit, process, filter, and convert text. The secondary model of usage in Unix is automation, via text files -- take a complex job, and write it out in a text file so it can be done simply over and over. That's Unix in a nutshell.
Yes, you can do any model of interaction on any OS, but I'm talking about where the friction is. Text based workflow is the low-friction path on Unix.
